Monsignor Michael J. Corona was born on December 1, 1941, in Raritan, New Jersey to Bernard and Theresa Corona. A member of Saint Ann Parish, he attended the public schools in Raritan and Saint Peter's High School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After graduating high school in 1959, he attended Saint Charles College in Catonsville, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Saint Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he also studied Theology. In 1975, he received a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Seton Hall University and was awarded a doctorate in Education from Williamstown University in 1996.

He was ordained for the Diocese of Trenton on May 25, 1968 in Saint Mary Cathedral, Trenton. He has been involved in a number of different ministries, including CYO and religious education programs in St. Peter Parish and High School, New Brunswick, New Jersey; St. James Parish and Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, New Jersey. He has also served as a teacher, then vice-principal and principal of Holy Cross High School, Delran, New Jersey. On August 31, 1979, Monsignor Corona assumed the pastorate of Saint Philip and Saint James Parish, Phillipsburg, New Jersey. In 1994, his parish started on the road to becoming a "Stewardship Parish".
At the time of the formation of the Diocese of Metuchen in 1981, he was asked to continue his work as Scouting Moderator and was asked to serve on the Commission for Worship and Preaching. He was elected to the Presbyteral Council, representing his deanery for three terms. Also, he was appointed a member of the diocesan College of Consulters on which he continues to serve. In 1984, Monsignor was asked to start a Serra Club for vocations in Warren County.

In 1983, he was named Director of Communications for the Diocese, and in 1985, was appointed vice-chancellor for Communications. In 1992, Monsignor Corona was appointed the Director of the Office of Development (now Office of Stewardship) with responsibility for the Diocese's annual appeal, Catholic Charities development projects, elementary and high school development projects and stewardship programs. He served as a member of the Board of Catholic Charities and as the Executive Secretary of the Flame of Charity Foundation. In 1991, he was named a Prelate of Honor by Pope John Paul II.

Since the inception of the Diocese of Metuchen, Monsignor Corona has been called upon to chair committees celebrating the Tenth and Fifteenth anniversaries of the founding of the Diocese as well as the diocesan Papal Visit Coordinating Committee. Monsignor Corona chaired Bishop Hughes' 50th Anniversary Committee and also the Physical Arrangements Committee for the Ordination and Installation of the Third Bishop of Metuchen. In 1998, Monsignor Corona was inducted as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. In 2001, Monsignor Corona was appointed Episcopal Vicar of Warren County. In June of 2003, Msgr. Corona was appointed Executive Director of the Department of Education in the Diocese of Metuchen and Superintendent of Schools. Presently, Monsignor is once again a member of the College of Consulters.

In 1997, Monsignor Corona was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Catholic Stewardship Council, representing Region Three (New Jersey and Pennsylvania). The year 2000 saw Monsignor Corona chairing the ICSC's Millennium Conference in Washington, DC. He recently finished his term as President of the executive board of the organization. In the town of Phillipsburg, along with his pastoral duties, Monsignor Corona served two terms as the president of the Phillipsburg Council of Churches and for three terms as vice-chairman of the Phillipsburg Housing Authority.

Monsignor Corona is also a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award given by the National Boy Scout Council for distinguished service to Scouting. Also, he has received several national Catholic Scouting awards, honoring his work for the spiritual development of youth.

In 2003, the Flame of Charity Foundation of the Diocese of Metuchen awarded Monsignor with their Community Servant Award. In 2007, the Chamber of Commerce gave Monsignor the "Citizen of the Year" award.

Previous to his appointment as Director of Stewardship, and in all of his pastoral assignments, Msgr. Corona produced and directed the local Catholic high schools' plays and spring musicals.

In November of 2008, Pope Benedict XVI, at the behest of Bishop Bootkoski, named Msgr. Corona a Protonotary Apostolic Supranumerary, the highest level of the Prelates of Honor.

Msgr. Corona attributes the satisfaction he has experienced during his 43 years as a priest to his willingness to accept the "will of God" expressed in the responsibilities given to him by the Bishops of Trenton and Metuchen.

The people of the parishes in which Monsignor has served "have been the delight of my life – especially the young people in the schools and CCD programs, the young and old to whom I have ministered sacramentally, my co-workers, and the great and wonderful people of Saint Ann's, who have made it easy for me to be their pastor."

"I have tried to accomplish whatever has been asked of me in a joyful way. Because of this I have been very peaceful with my responsibilities – with any program or office I have been asked to administer. I've always put myself in God's hands, and then try my best," he acknowledged, professing a philosophy that has served his vocation well.
